The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise data infrastructure to support analytics, integration, and reporting needs across the organization. This includes developing and optimizing data pipelines, implementing data architecture best practices, and ensuring data quality, security, and scalability. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analytics, operations, and clinical stakeholders, to support data-informed decision making. This role plays a critical part in healthcare and compensation data analysis for executive and key business decision making.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time streaming pipelines.
  • Develop and manage ETL/ELT workflows for ingesting, transforming, and integrating data from diverse internal and external sources.
  • Connect to and integrate third-party APIs and data sources, including Corepoint and other healthcare interfaces.
  • Lead and execute data migrations between EMR systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Create and maintain well-structured, query-optimized data models for analytics, reporting, and dashboarding.
  • Ensure data quality through validation, monitoring, cleansing, and transformation logic.
  • Implement and enforce data governance practices, including access controls, metadata management, auditability and documentation.
  • Monitor and tune performance of data systems, proactively addressing bottlenecks or failures.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and clinical/business users to understand data needs and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members and promote engineering best practices.
  • Stay up to date on evolving technologies, particularly in cloud data platforms, healthcare data standards, and interoperability.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages (Python, Java, or Scala).
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and big data architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including services such as Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration platforms (e.g., Apache Airflow).
  • Familiarity with data integration frameworks and APIs (REST, Corepoint, HL7).
  • Knowledge of data governance, role-based access, and data security best practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, tune, and optimize performance of data pipelines and systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field required
  • 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, data warehouse, or BI roles
  • Experience integrating external and third-party data sources using APIs or interface engines (e.g., Corepoint).
  • Demonstrated experience with healthcare data, EMR platforms (e.g., eClinicalWorks), and clinical/billing data systems.
  • Prior experience with data migrations between EMR systems, including planning, validation, and execution.
  • Exposure to business intelligence and dashboarding platforms such as Tableau or similar tools.
  • Hands on data processing and data modeling experience
  • Hands on experience managing data projects from requirements gathering through deployment
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Experience with SDLC and change management processes
  • Experience managing data related to Revenue Recognition and Physician Compensation

The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
