A NOTE FROM YOUR TEAM LEAD

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our cross-functional team, working on the Clue product and the services it interacts with. Join us and help over 10 million monthly active users to learn about their bodies and to better live in sync with their biology. You will help your cross functional team to build, release and iterate on features in their domain participating in all stages of development from early design, to implementation, to release - having quality & observability as a focus at all times.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Collaborate with design, product, and other engineering teams to define, develop, and ship new features.
• Encourage efforts to explore, evaluate, and adopt modern Backend tools and technologies.
• Propose, document, and implement coding guidelines and best practices to ensure a high-quality codebase.
• Mentor, support and guide other engineers, fostering a collaborative and motivating team culture.
• Share responsibility for the Backend platform’s stability, performance, and overall quality.
• Advocate for a business-oriented approach to feature prioritization and establish efficient cross-team collaboration.
• Address Backend-related queries and challenges with responsiveness and expertise.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Strong Backend Expertise: Several years of hands-on experience building and operating scalable, distributed backend systems, preferably using Kotlin and Spring Boot or Golang, in a microservices architecture. Familiarity with event-driven architectures and gRPC is a plus.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Solid knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred, but others welcome), with experience in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
• Testing & Observability: Deep understanding of unit and integration testing, and proven experience in implementing monitoring and observability solutions to ensure system stability and performance.
• Database Skills: Strong working knowledge of databases, especially PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• CI/CD & Tooling: Experience with continuous integration systems and modern dependency management practices.
• Leadership, Collaboration & Communication: Demonstrated ability to lead by example, mentor team members, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture. Comfortable working cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams. You can clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
• Strategic Thinking: You think beyond code—understanding the bigger picture, aligning engineering goals with business objectives, and contributing meaningfully to product strategy.
• Proactive Problem Solver: You take initiative to identify and resolve challenges, constantly seeking improvement and advocating for best practices in backend development.
• Passion for Technology: You stay up to date with the latest backend technologies and industry trends and are eager to bring innovative ideas to the team.
