VP, Technology Operations
Midi
Vice President, Technology Operations
Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Location: [Remote / HQ location]
Role Summary
In a complex matrix organization where Product, Engineering, and IT own distinct but interdependent parts of our technology stack, the Vice President of Technology Operations is the operational authority ensuring that technology priorities, builds, and infrastructure are successfully delivered, adopted, and sustained across the business.
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this role is intentionally designed to align technology execution directly with clinical, operational, and business goals. The VP ensures that Product’s roadmaps, Engineering’s code, and IT’s infrastructure integrate into a seamless, reliable, and compliant technology environment that supports patient care and business growth.
This is not a product feature–building role. This is the executive leader responsible for governing, operationalizing, and running our technology stack in production at scale — eliminating silos, holding cross-functional teams accountable, and ensuring technology delivers tangible, measurable value to the business.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Technology Leadership & Governance
- Own the end-to-end operational performance of the enterprise technology stack, including EHR, AI tools, enterprise platforms, and integrations.
- Establish and lead governance for shared, high-impact systems (e.g., AthenaHealth) to ensure alignment, change control, and rapid decision-making across Product, Engineering, and IT.
- Translate operational priorities into actionable technical deliverables, ensuring patient safety, clinician experience, compliance, and ROI drive decision-making.
- Serve as the single point of accountability for technology operational readiness and ongoing performance.
- Manages the Athena EHR team, relationship with Biz Ops to manage projects, and TechOps team.
Operational Readiness & Decision Rights
- Hold authority to stop, defer, or reprioritize technology launches if operational readiness, compliance, or patient safety standards are not met.
- Approve go-live timing for shared systems and major releases, based on operational impact and business continuity needs.
- Escalate and direct cross-functional resources to resolve urgent operational technology issues.
Execution & System Performance
- Ensure all clinical and operational systems are stable, secure, and fully adopted, with uptime, load, and recovery plans in place.
- Drive interoperability, automation, and integration across the stack to reduce friction and manual effort.
- Oversee vendor relationships and enforce contract performance, including corrective action planning.
- Lead AI/ML operationalization, ensuring responsible deployment into clinical and operational workflows.
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, HITECH, and all applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Oversee access management, cybersecurity posture, and audit readiness for all systems.
- Lead risk identification and mitigation for all technology in production.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
- Build strong partnerships with Product, Engineering, IT, Clinical Informatics, and Data Science to deliver one integrated technology stack.
- Ensure clear swim lanes, decision rights, and accountability across functions
- Champion a service-first, data-driven culture within Technology Operations.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Gather frontline feedback from clinicians, care teams, and business users, translating it into technology improvements.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies that improve workflows, patient outcomes, and business performance.
Ideal Experience & Qualifications
- 15+ years in technology operations leadership, with at least 7 years at the executive level in healthcare, telemedicine, or digital health.
- Proven track record of owning operational governance for complex, integrated technology ecosystems.
- Deep expertise in EHR (AthenaHealth preferred), enterprise integrations, AI/ML operationalization, interoperability, and compliance.
- Strong vendor management and contract enforcement experience.
- Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization, aligning cross-functional teams around operational outcomes.
- Demonstrated success scaling technology operations to support multi-state, high-volume care delivery.
Success in This Role Means:
- Technology launches are fully operationalized before go-live, with no unplanned disruptions.
- Shared systems have clear governance and decision-making, eliminating silos and bottlenecks.
- Product, Engineering, and IT priorities consistently land in the business without rework or adoption gaps.
- Technology performance, security, and compliance standards are met or exceeded at all times.
- AI and emerging technologies are deployed responsibly and measurably improve clinician and patient experience.
