POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is a leading organization in the field of nucleic acid based diagnostics now conducting scientific research to produce innovative therapeutics. We are seeking a talented Bioinformatics Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development, improvement, and operation of our bioinformatics pipelines to support personalized therapeutics development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines focused on high throughput sequencing data for DNA variant calling and RNAseq expression analyses.
  • Implement and enhance data analysis workflows using Python, R, Bash, and WDL.
  • Preprocess diverse bioinformatics data modalities to machine-readable formats (e.g. TSV, H5DF), and incorporate AI/ML model outputs to downstream workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver robust computational solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to pipeline performance and data processing.
  • Ensure the scalability, efficiency, and reliability of bioinformatics workflows.
  • Document pipeline development processes and provide training to team members as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bioinformatics tools and practices.

KEY SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in Workflow Description Language (WDL) for pipeline development.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R for data analysis and workflow automation.
  • Expertise in Bash scripting for task automation and system operations.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and software, particularly for high throughput sequencing data.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing in cloud based and GPU-accelerated environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience analyzing and processing long-read sequencing data such as those produced by Pacific Biosciences and Oxford Nanopore technologies.
  • Knowledge of immunology and oncology.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and DNAnexus.
  • Proficiency in SQL for database management and querying.
  • Knowledge of genomics, transcriptomics, and other omics data analysis.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and workflow management systems (e.g., Cromwell).
  • Experience with PyTorch-Lightning and Keras

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or greater in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and managing bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Experience developing and maintaining pipelines to support DNA variant calling and RNAseq based expression analyses.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
