Natera is seeking an experienced Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) to support our growing organization in Japan, with primary responsibility for partnering with Sales and Marketing teams. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to business leaders and employees, helping drive organizational effectiveness, talent development, and a strong employee experience aligned with commercial objectives.

The Senior HR Business Partner will collaborate closely with Japan Sales and Marketing leadership while aligning local HR practices with Natera’s global strategies and ensuring compliance with Japanese labor laws.


Key Responsibilities

HR Partnership & Advisory

  • Serve as a trusted HR partner to leadership and employees, providing guidance across a wide range of HR matters.

  • Advise managers on compensation, benefits, performance management, employee engagement, and team development.

  • Support leaders in building effective, high-performing teams through coaching and consultative support.

  • Maintain awareness of employee sentiment and engagement, helping leaders proactively address organizational needs.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Provide guidance on employment-related matters in compliance with Japanese labor laws and regulations.

  • Partner with Legal and Global HR to address workplace issues and ensure fair, consistent, and compliant outcomes.

  • Support investigations and issue resolution as needed, applying sound judgment and best practices.

Talent & Organizational Development

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and hiring managers to support workforce planning and hiring strategies.

  • Participate in interviews and hiring decisions as appropriate.

  • Support onboarding, offboarding, succession planning, and retention initiatives.

  • Identify development needs and partner with leaders to implement effective learning and development solutions.

HR Programs & Global Collaboration

  • Support the implementation and localization of global HR programs including performance management, compensation planning, benefits administration, and training.

  • Collaborate closely with Global HR partners to ensure alignment between Japan HR practices and Natera’s global strategy.

  • Utilize Workday and HR data to support reporting, insights, and informed decision-making.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Education, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner, preferably in biotech, life sciences, or high-tech environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of Japanese employment and labor laws.

  • Experience supporting managers and employees across a broad range of HR topics.

  • Fluent in Japanese and English (written and verbal).


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Broad HR generalist expertise with a solid understanding of Japan employment practices.

  • Experience operating in a global, matrixed organization.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Workday preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.

  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to align HR initiatives with organizational goals.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and support action planning.

  • Ability to coach, influence, and partner with leaders in a collaborative manner.

  • Highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
