Job Description

The Position

  • The External Manufacturing (ExM) Strategic Alliances Platform team is seeking a highly motivated individual at an Associate Director level to provide strategic management of Operations at External Manufacturing Partners in Japan.

  • The ExM Operations Associate Director, in partnership with the respective cross functional representatives, will be responsible for ensuring the reliable supply of finished goods from external contract manufacturing partners (CMOs). The Operations Associate Director is the leader and primary point of contact for the assigned CMOs, develops the relationship with the contract manufacturer and establishes a strong business partnership.

  • As an operational leader, act spontaneously, and demonstrate leadership in working with cross-functional teams including CMOs.

Responsibilities

Regular CMO production management:

  • Applies understanding of the end-to-end supply chain (i.e. design, plan, source, make and deliver), knowledge of cross-functional interdependence within the company and an understanding of interactions with internal sites to achieve operational excellence.

  • Confirm daily production plans and results against the initial yearly plan with CMOs, take action as needed, and report and coordinate with internal stakeholders.

  • Lead regular meetings at each level with CMOs to build relationships and drive work.

  • Discuss and coordinate with relevant departments within Organon and CMOs in the event of a problem/deviation. Escalate to Organon’s senior management as necessary.

  • Works closely with the cross functional team and CMOs to proactively assess and mitigate supply, quality and EHS risks and drive continuous improvement activities.

  • Lead efforts to appropriately facilitate and coordinate stakeholder discussions regarding supply issues that require resolution between sales partners and CMOs.

  • Handle various payment matters with CMOs in accordance with the contract. Review and renew the contract as necessary.

  • Review CMO purchase orders for commercial manufacturing and verify price validity.

  • Check CMO inventory and report regularly.

Supply-related project work:

  • Plan and secure budgets for activities required at CMOs in response to changes in sources and manufacturing sites, and execute in cooperation with related departments.

  • Work with global related departments to build a supply chain (CMO selection, signing contract, and supply operation establishment) for new products introduced to the domestic market.

  • Lead the contract manufacturing of product related materials with domestic suppliers, and work with relevant departments to conclude contracts and develop supply plans.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelors or higher degree preferably in Engineering, Science or Business

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in Pharma Industry in commercial, business and manufacturing with more than one leadership role in operations, project management, quality, technology, or supply chain.

  • Ability to think strategically, identifying opportunities that add value to the work and proactively mitigate risk across the value chain

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, project management, collaboration, negotiation and analytical skills

  • Has demonstrated strong leadership in a teamwork environment and with strong team coordination abilities

  • Strong business and financial acumen; has skills to understand and intelligently apply economic, financial and industry data to make business decisions that drive value for our company and our customers

  • Ability to manage complex situations through rapid, disciplined decision making

  • Deep knowledge and expertise in manufacturing & packaging operations as well as end-to-end supply chain management to drive results and business outcomes

  • Deep understanding of GMP and EHS compliance requirements and knowledge of applicable regulations

  • Has proven lean manufacturing skills to deliver compliant supply and achieve highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead-time

  • Ability to work in culturally diverse environments

  • Fluency in English and Japanese (both verbal and written)
