Job Description

The Position

The incumbent is a functional area expert, who manages the competitive intelligence center of expertise, providing an objective perspective on potential disruptive market and competitive events, based upon an in-depth understanding and analysis of healthcare dynamics, commercial, clinical, and scientific competitive information. This individual will have responsibility across the entire in-line and aspirational portfolio, interacting directly with senior leaders across the enterprise. The incumbent will ensure that business leaders have actionable intelligence by monitoring the environment, leading both primary and secondary competitive intelligence (CI), and integrating insights across CI, Insights, and Analytics for a comprehensive view of market and competitive trends and events. Importantly, this individual serves as an integral member of the commercial assessment, insights and analytics team and extended business development (BD) team member in the evaluation of new commercial and licensing opportunities. As many projects are highly business sensitive, a high level of personal integrity and emotional intelligence while maintaining confidentiality is essential. The incumbent will be responsible for the Competitive Intelligence policies and procedures as well as the evolution of CI data collection, processing and dissemination leveraging automation and AI.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a consultant and expert resource offering an objective viewpoint on disruptive forces and pending market and competitive events, based upon an in-depth understanding and analysis of healthcare dynamics, commercial, clinical, and scientific competitive information.

  • Lead secondary and primary competitive investigations, assessing and managing external vendors, and synthesizing and disseminating intelligence and associated implications.

  • Ensure that business leaders have actionable intelligence by escalating the business implications of competitors’ activities and disruptive market events and trends.

  • Serve as integral member of the Commercial Assessment team and extended Business Development team assisting the due diligence process.

  • Assist franchise teams and Business Development teams to monitor the competitive landscape, develop market scans, and identify strategic opportunities.

  • Identify, profile, and monitor key competitors and their strategies in key business areas of interest.

  • Monitor the external environment (news, market events, and other secondary resources to build integrated insights of key competitors.

  • Maintain policies and guidance for CI, assess and on-board agencies, and ensure a comprehensive view of competitor and market activity.

  • Set standards for competitive intelligence processes.

  • Evolve the business model for competitive intelligence data collection and dissemination leveraging automation and AI in accordance with enterprise AI governance.

  • Ensure business partners and agencies remain compliant with all required training, intellectual property activities, and corporate policies as well as industry guidelines for the appropriate collection and use of CI.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree (MA/MS/MBA/MPH or equivalent) in Science, Pharmacology, Economics, Finance, Biology, Chemistry, Research, Data Science, Marketing, or other relevant disciplines.

  • At least ten years overall work experience in a related field with at least five years of relevant work experience in healthcare life sciences or consulting inclusive of competitive intelligence, clinical, pharmacy, sales, marketing, market research, data analysis, business development, or related areas.

  • Minimum three years’ related experience in competitive intelligence, market research, or comparable insight & analytics function.

  • Comprehensive understanding of key primary and secondary resources to capture intelligence, and the ability to analyze and translate scientific and commercial information into meaningful intelligence.

  • Understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization process, global pharmaceutical market, and industry competitive dynamics.

  • Analytical reasoning abilities, intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen.

  • Demonstrated consulting skills including problem definition, hypothesis generation, data analysis, and value demonstration.

  • Experience working with or in roles supporting Business Development or Licensing a plus.

  • Ideal candidate will possess balance of scientific knowledge and business acumen.

  • Preference for candidate with firsthand field-experience with primary competitive intelligence activities; knowledge and expertise in database search; and affinity for transformation and leveraging new technology, tools, and techniques.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree (MA/MS/MBA/MPH or equivalent) in Science, Pharmacology, Economics, Finance, Biology, Chemistry, Research, Data Science, Marketing, or other relevant disciplines

  • Advanced verbal, written and oral presentation communication skills – translating data into a concise story.
