About the Role

The Mental Health Fertility Counselor plays a critical role in supporting patients and participants throughout their fertility journey. In partnership with our Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility teams, this position provides counseling, psychological assessments, consultation, and psychoeducation for intended parents, recipients, embryo donors, egg and sperm donors, and gestational carriers involved in third-party reproduction.

This role ensures individuals and families feel informed, supported, and emotionally prepared as they navigate assisted reproduction and family-building pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological assessments of donor and gestational carrier candidates.
  • Provide consultation and psychoeducation to prepare candidates for participation in third-party reproduction.
  • Offer counseling, guidance, and support to intended parents, recipients, and embryo donors regarding the psychosocial aspects of third-party reproduction.
  • Complete timely, thorough written evaluations and documentation.
  • Communicate clinical recommendations effectively with physicians and care teams.
  • Collaborate with physicians, coordinators, and laboratory staff to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
  • Maintain compliance with professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform additional duties and support special projects as needed.

Position Requirements

  • Education:
    • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required.
  • Licensure:
    • Active, unrestricted independent licensure required (e.g., LCSW, LISW, LPC, LPCC, PsyD, PhD).
    • Must hold licensure in one or more of the following states: CA, FL, OR, WA, MI, or MD.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Previous experience conducting third-party reproduction assessments strongly preferred.
    • Experience in reproductive mental health, infertility counseling, or related specialty area preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough psychosocial assessments and complete high-quality, timely documentation.
    • Maintain active professional liability insurance coverage with limits of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence (proof required).
    • Strong written communication and exceptional interpersonal skills.
    • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to navigate sensitive conversations with empathy, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment.
