Role Summary
The Project Manager / PMO Lead will be responsible for delivering critical IT projects while also laying the foundation for future project governance, portfolio management, and reporting standards. The role requires both hands-on project management execution and building out PMO practices that will grow with the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Delivery (Hands-On PM)
- Serve as project manager for priority IT initiatives (e.g., infrastructure upgrades, EMR enhancements, security initiatives, analytics projects).
- Define business requirements, project scope, timelines, milestones, risks, and budgets.
- Drive cross-functional project teams to successful outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, and healthcare regulations during project execution.
Establishing the PMO Function
- Develop foundational PMO practices including templates, tools, and reporting frameworks.
- Introduce project intake and prioritization processes in collaboration with leadership.
- Standardize status reporting, risk tracking, and portfolio dashboards for IT projects.
- Promote project management discipline and continuous improvement across IT.
Stakeholder Communication & Alignment
- Provide regular project updates to the Head of IT and other leaders.
- Prepare concise dashboards and reports for executives and business stakeholders.
- Facilitate meetings, steering committees, and working sessions.
- Act as a trusted partner between IT and business/clinical stakeholders.
Future PMO Evolution
- Identify gaps and opportunities in project governance as the PMO matures
- Recommend scaling strategies (tools, additional staff, governance models).
- Lay the groundwork for a PMO that can grow into a team over time.
Education, Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of IT project management experience, with 3+ years in a leadership or PMO role.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (PMI/PMP, Agile, Hybrid).
- Healthcare IT experience (EHR, HIPAA compliance, clinical systems) strongly preferred.
- PMP certification is a requirement for this role.
- Additional certifications such as PMI-ACP, CSM, and ITIL are preferred, but not required.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and communicate with executive leadership.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Employment Type
This is a full-time exempt position.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $90,000-$140,000 annually. Salary is based on several factors including job related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees.
