New England Cryogenic Center (NECC), affiliate of New England Cord Blood Bank, Inc., was founded in 1971 and is considered one of the pioneers in processing and cryopreservation of human cells and tissue. Our goal is to continue to be a premiere worldwide leader in cryopreservation of human cells, tissue, and cellular therapies. In addition, we aim to educate the public and medical communities on the availability of cryogenic storage of cells and tissue, along with their current and potential benefits for future use in treating disease and injury.
This position requires that you perform all necessary duties of a Lead-Laboratory and laboratory personnel, while also supporting and monitoring departmental workflows to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
We are seeking a full-time Lead-Laboratory to join our Marlborough, MA team. The schedule is working Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, with every 4 week weekend rotation and at least 1-2 holidays per year.
What You'll Do:
- Assign, pull and verify orders
- Perform daily and weekly QM/QC
- Receive products and verify them via packing slips to ensure correct amount received
- Check-in shipping tanks and perform shipping procedures for specimen orders
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness in the Cryogenic area
- Assist Manager in drafting and reviewing SOPs as needed
- Attend meetings when necessary
- Convey any non-compliances and difficulties to upper management
- Perform and assist in all duties pursuant to the betterment of NECC and related companies
- Maintain and update inventory locations by using paper records and computerized specimen inventory software
- Coordinate specimen pick-ups and deliveries with courier and sales department
- Review and approve client reports, client test results, and report results to appropriate staff
- Maintain electronic cord blood client files
- Respond to emails and requests from the cord blood processing laboratory in a timely manner
- Processing andrology specimens as needed
- Responsible for being an “on call” person for the cryogenic alarm monitoring system, once or twice per month
- Responsible for alarming/disarming the building security system
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution is preferred
- At least one year of related laboratory experience preferred
- High attention to detail
- Must be capable of performing, evaluating, and reporting cryogenics procedures by following standard operating procedures
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Weekend rotation: once or twice per month
- Holiday coverage rotation once or twice per year
- Occasional overtime
- Working knowledge in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, database, and Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Computer proficiency required
- Have skills to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
- Have understanding of SOPs, OSHA and HIPAA
- Flexibility and willingness to learn at all times
- Excellent multi-tasking abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and build and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to effectively provide technical and knowledge training to staff
- Ability to develop continuous quality improvement
